Nutrition Services
Healthy meals are an essential component to learning and growing. LifeWorks Schools are committed to ensuring that all our students have access to healthy meals. In accordance with all Pennsylvania Department of Education Regulations, we offer school breakfast and lunch options. We also offer applications for parents who may qualify for federal and state free/reduced status.
Students may opt to bring their own meals, but no glass or aluminum containers are allowed. We encourage water, milk or a healthy juice as the choice of beverage and work with our dietician, the Nutrition Group, and Smart Lunches to include more fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products, nutritious grains and healthfully prepared proteins.
Our health teachers and school nurses further promote nutrition promotion and education. Students are taught about the five food groups and how to choose food from each group when they are serving themselves. We create learning opportunities for our students who are forming healthy eating habits and encourage them to taste new flavors and healthy food options.
We work closely with our vending machine vendors to feature healthy options and exclude soda, energy drinks and high-sugar content drinks and snacks.
